Music Picks for Thursday, Feb 4

Steep CanyonRangers w/ Thompson Brothers (of Old Habits) - Lincoln Theatre (Bluegrass)
Steep Canyon Rangers is by far, the BEST Bluegrass Band in the Carolinas and easily one of the best in the country. This band from Brevard/Asheville is constantly tearing up the Bluegrass charts - everytime they release another album or single. They are a talented group of musicians who have been together quite a long time and can harmonize with the best of them - check out their Acapella song/hymn "Can't sit down" or newer "Call the Captain" - these guys are truly treasures and we should be so fortunate to be able to have them call on Raleigh as much as they do.
Check them out on www.myspace.com/thesteepcanyonrangers
The Thompson Brothers open the evening -and are an excellent start to an excellent evening.

Haiti Relief Benefit - Featuring, The Hotwires, Rooster for the Masses, Filthybird, Chatam County Line, Roger Gupton and more - The Pourhouse
This is the big benefit for the terrible tragedy that occured in Haiti last month. All proceeds of this show go directly to the Red Cross for EarthQuake relief efforts. This is a Solid lineup that has a little something for everyone - from Indie, to Rock, to Bluegrass - an excellent lineup for an excellent cause. Please note that this is an Early Show - with a 7pm start but a late end as the last band takes the stage around midnight.....
Check out all the bands on myspace or at the Pourhouse Raleigh website....

Bumble - Busy Bee (Electronica)
For those of you who missed Technoiz - or loved it and want more - Bumble is a very solid set of great Electronic Music - it is one of my favorite sets and I try to make it at least every other week...

  1. Steep Canyon Rangers played another GREAT set on Thurs.... THe Lincoln Theatre was a new venue for them but it worked well for them and they may be switching to this venue for future shows... Lots of new songs but also some great old songs - sadly no "Feeling a little like Dale" but there was another rousing rendition of "cant sit down" and "call the captain"....
All in all, it was almost 2hrs of solid music with no break... Great stuff! Show wrapped up at 11 - with time to spare to head to bumble...
