Music Picks for week of Jan 4th

Hi All,

As we slowly ease out of the New Year's and Holiday Hangovers, the Music offerings also ease into some great shows as the week progresses. Please see reccomendations below:

Monday 01/04: Rumble Sessions (Electronica) - Big Easy - Fayetteville St, Raleigh. Rumble sessions is Monday's Answer to Sunday's Neu Romance @ the Albi, as well as Thursday's "Bumble" @ Busy Bee. The Dj's change from week to week - it's worth checking out for those of you who dig Electronic Music

Wednesday 01/06: Technoiz (Electronica) - Pourhouse - Blount St, Raleigh. Technoiz is featuring Orgavin, Cheezface and DJ Charlie Burnett. While I've not heard Charlie Burnett before - Orgavin and Cheezface are strong - and reccomended. I do not believe Cheezface has a website but check out Orgavin @ myspace.com/orgavin7.
Wednesday is also Mug Nite @ Pourhouse - never a bad deal where $3 fills your mug with anything on tap...

Thursday 01/07 Grayson Capps (Rockabilly - Nola Style) - Berkely Cafe - W. Martin St, Raleigh. Grayson Capps is a 20 yr veteran of the Nola Music scene. One of his first big breaks came in 2004 when he wrote the title track for a Movie "A love song for Bobby Long" featuring John Travolta and Scarlett Johannson. He is a true gem and this show is not to be missed. Check him out at www.graysoncapps.com or on You Tube - great songs like New Orleans Waltz, Washboard Lisa, Drink a Little Poison, ect will get you going and keep you going throughout the set.

Thursday also has Bumble (Electronica) - Busy Bee - Wilmington St, Raleigh. This is a solid offering of Electronic House Music - DJ's vary - check it out upstairs at the Hive - and sample a brew from their superb selection.

Friday 01/08, The Rosebuds, Megafaun, Lonnie Walker - Pourhouse - Blount St, Raleigh. Three Great Bands - all in one night in one setting. Lonnie Walker will kick things off - Followed by local band Megafaun - fresh off their European Tour. This is some great Jam/Rock/Alt styled music which will Blend into the Indie/Alt music of another great local band - The Rosebuds. This promises to be a GREAT show. It is another show not to be missed. Check out both Rosebuds and Megafaun on Myspace under their band names.

Saturday 01/09, Tristan Clopet - Berkely Cafe, W. Martin St, Raleigh. Tristan Clopet's ability to blend Funk and Blues - with high quality vocal skills is simply amazing. He is quickly working his way up the musical rankings via Miami and NYC and has just finished a UK tour that included a gig with world-renowned Sandi Thom. His musical styling is a fusion that is laid back - and makes for some easy listening. This is highly reccomended.

Saturday also features a 2nd helping of the Rosebuds and Megafaun (with Hammer no more the Fingers) at the Pourhouse - for those of you who didn't get enough on Friday night. The official line on this is that it is "sold out" but you can get around this one of two ways: 1. Go to Schoolkids Records - they will usually have a few tix left or 2. Show up early and get a ticket at the door - this is usually never an issue either.

Upcoming Shows:

1/13 - Frank Zappa - Lincoln Theatre
1/14 - Bobby Lee Rogers - Pourhouse
1/15 - Sierra Hull & David Olney - Berkely Cafe
1/17 - Dirty Dozen Brass Band - Cats Cradle
