Welcome to RDU Music Listings!

Hey Everbody!

2010 is now upon us and as one of my New Years Resolutions - I wanted to create a platform by which Music Lovers can easily find recommended shows based on genre - and similarity with larger better-known bands. In the 10 years that I have been in the Raleigh music scene, we have seen tremendous growth with the opening of several new venues and unfortunately the closure of a couple as well (R.I.P. Kings). Through this time, Raleigh has quietly established itself as a solid stop for regional and national touring bands as it, along with Charlotte (and to a lesser Extent Asheville and Richmond), is a convenient stop between the Major Markets of Atlanta and D.C. Traditionally these bands stopped almost Exclusively at Cats Cradle but now Raleigh has some venues that can and do compete with the The Cradle to expand music offerings and allow those of us who live in Raleigh the convenience of forgoing the 30-45 drive to/from the concert. The only way this is going to continue to grow is for us to get people to the shows. We have top notch local, regional, and national talent playing here on a regular basis and sometimes there is only a handful of patrons at the shows.

I believe this is due to the fact that it is difficult to find out where the music is and it is nearly impossible to find out much about the bands or their musical styles. Our area lacks a source where the occasional music lover can go to find out what's playing, when, and where. I've talked to many, many people in the past couple of years and while they would love to catch a show or two, they do not know where to look or as is often the case - they find out about a show after it has passed. This blog will attempt to help let people know about shows in advance - match bands to genre's - and provide some solid info and links for the bands listed.

This is a work in progress and any feedback is welcomed.

Enjoy! Support Live Local Music and the Raleigh Music Scene.
