Music Picks for Thursday, March 11

Girls, Guns & Glory - Berkeley Cafe (Rock, Americanna)
Ever wonder what it would sound like if you combined Chris Isaak and Johnny Cash? Well, if you want to know - check out this Boston band. They have been recieving all sorts of accolades from far and wide. This band is the next hot thing in the style of Chris Isaak. Their stylings have been compared to Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Chris Isaak, Hank Williams and a host of others. All talented musicians, they are able to play as well as support and compliment Ward's superb vocals... Their excellent ability to harmonize also draws from elements of Bluegrass which only makes their range more well-rounded, and impressive....
This is a show not to be missed. I for one will be there as this is certainly a band on the rise....
Check them out @ www.myspace.com/girlsgunsandglory
Show is at 8pm

Amelia's Mechanics - Pourhouse (BlueGrass / Folk)
This all-woman band from Greensboro has more than filled the void left by the departure of "Sweet bye & bye" - these ladies are all VERY VERY talented musicians and I honestly feel that they are the protege's of the Indigo Girls - take a listen to their song "Moonshine Driving" and you will most certainly know what I mean. Their vocal quality is on par or better than Bjork - very impressive - listening to "French Press" certainly supports that. These ladies are for real and most certainly worth a listen.... What really sucks here is that I cant be in two places at once - but if their show starts late (and knowing the Pourhouse, the likelihood of this happening is very good) I'll be there to catch the last half or so of the show.....
This is not to be missed by those of you who dig Bluegrass/Folk....

Jim Avett is opening the show around 8-9pm....

Bumble - Busy Bee (Electronica)
Once again, we have the weekly stalwart of lounge/house music at the Hive - upstairs at the Busy Bee. This is THE place to get your electronica fix of the week.

Enjoy!!!

  1. All,

I went to all three shows for Thurs (yes, made for a late night).... All were awesome and well worth draggin ass for on Friday....
Girls Guns and Glory were even better that before and their tune-up for SXSW was spot on. Lots of new stuff and closing the set with "Inverted Valentine" was killer. All members were dead on and the new addition of lead guitar and the ability to play it like a steel guitar was impressive. Definitely a great show - please check them out next pass through - we had a good crowd - would like to see the place packed next time....

Amelia's Mechanics blew my doors off!!! First off, I was very glad to make it in time to catch their show and they certainly did not disapoint. Amazing show - amazing musicians with two lead vocals that give the sound of either Indigo Girls or Bjork..... Great crowd - great sound - Great Show...

After two great shows, I was not in the mood to head home - so I made my way to Bumble where there was a SOLID set of electronica/lounge....
    I love that place.....
