Music Picks for Thursday, April 22

Yo Mamma's Big Fat Booty Band - Pourhouse (Funk)
This is the week for Funk in the Triangle - with this being the 3rd show in as many days. This Asheville based band is well-known in this area and they will undoubtedly funk up the Pourhouse on Thursday. This is as good as it gets - horn-drenched funk.... This will be a GREAT show and it will have a great crowd - check them out @ www.myspace.com/yomamasbigfatbootyband
Show should start around 10 - and they will likely take the stage sometime around 11....

Enter the Haggis - Lincoln Theatre (Irish Punk/Jam)
Who needs Flogging Molly or The Drop Kick Murphys when we've got these guys?? This Toronto based band is on a barnstorm tour of the eastern U.S. and Canada. Their style draws on all elements of rock/punk and folk with a strong Irish accent to it all. Their use of instruments and electronic sounds with the talent to masterfully blend it into a great sound is simply amazing.... This will be a great show - and it will most certainly allow you to get your fix of Irish Punk for the week...
This is an earlier show - expect a 9pm start.
www.myspace.com/enterthehagis - check out "The litter and the leaves" - great song!

Iron Horse Bluegrass Band - Berkeley Cafe (Bluegrass)
This Muscle Shoals, AL band is up for a benefit concert and their bluegrass stylings are very much mainstream - with an added twist: They may bust out a rock tune from time to time.... They are very well known and respected in the national music circles and have done multiple tribute albums for many of the popular bands from the past 2 decades.
Expect an 8pm start - and these guys will likely take the stage before 9....

The Light Pines - Tir Na Nog - (Indie Rock)
The Light Pines are performing as part of the "local band local beer night" as sponsored by WKNC and Tir Na Nog.... This Chapel Hill band is a very interesting mix of indie rock and psychedelic music that is interesting, unique and certainly worth a listen - this is a FREE show - so come out and support live local music.
www.myspace.com/lightpines - check out the song "the healers" - its very good
