Music Picks for Tuesday, April 20

The New Mastersounds - Cats Cradle (Funk)
All I can say about this show is that the Triangle is in for a real treat. This IS one of the HOTTEST funk bands on the scene right now.... These guys are based in Leeds, UK and have been a MAJOR force in the funk/jazz scene for the past 4 years or so and despite not hailing from the birthplace of jazz, they are very much revered and respected in the Big Easy - in fact, this tour will wrap up with their annual show in New Orleans at Jazz Fest - I have been to the last two shows down there with them and it's nuts - usually a start time of 2-3am and EVERYBODY who is anybody in the New Orleans Jazz/Funk scene waiting to sit in with them....
These guys can really bring it and Eddie's guitar is simply amazing as is Joe's mastery of the keys.... Simon and Pete tear it up too and this is most certainly not a show to miss - and I certainly will not miss it..... That and the fact that they are great guys who will hang out after the show and share a beer with you really makes it a great time.
Check them out @ www.newmastersounds.com or www.myspace.com/newmastersounds
you must check out get songs like "Land of Nod" "One Note Brown" "Thermal Bad" or "You got it all"

We the Kings - Lincoln Theatre - (Rock)
This Supergroup is in the middle of a nation-wide tour and Raleigh is proud to host them at the Lincoln Theatre. This Tampa based band has some real hits and are just about there - I suspect the next time through Raleigh, they will be playing at Alltel.... They have a real talent for mixing their guitar riffs and vocals in such a way that sounds like Pop with an Alt edge. This is going to be a great show as well - and the opening band The Maine is pretty darn decent in it's own right. Get there early - this is an early show 6:30pm - and there is a rumor it is sold out!....
