Music Picks for Tuesday, April 6

Yarn - Pourhouse (Americana, Country)
New York City would not seem like a place where you would think that a Country/Americana band would get it's start and grow - but this band from Brooklyn is doing just that. Tonight is a CD release party for their new CD. They are in the early stages of a 2 month tour that will hit most of the Eastern half of the U.S..... This band is able to combine elements of Country and Americana to create great sound that keeps you swaying and/or dancing and enjoying the simpler things in life... Clean Vocals, crisp instrumentation - If you closed your eyes - you would think that these guys sounded a lot like Ryan Bingham of "Crazy Heart" fame.....
www.myspace.com/brooklynyarn - be sure to check out "Alone on the Weekend" or my personal fave - "Abilene"
This is a 9pm show - expect 1st band to start right around then with Yarn taking the stage around 10-10:30

Amos Lee - Lincoln Theatre (Folk/Blues/Soul)
Powerful - Amazing - Moving. Just some of the adjectives used in describing the music stylings of this Philadelphia based band who is currently in the middle of a tour of the Eastern US. The easy going music and powerful soul vocals is simply overpowering. This will most certainly be a show of a lot of "stop and listen" moments. This is definitely worth checking out. Still not sure?
Check them out @ www.myspace.com/amoslee - "Sweet Pea" "Long Line of Pain" & "Careless" are true gems....
This is an early 8pm show - with Amos Lee taking the stage around 9-9:30.

South Memphis String Band (Berkeley Cafe) (Country/Rockabilly)
This Memphis band is full of talented members from former powerhouse bands (North Mississippi All-Stars & Squirel Nut Zippers) and they bring their talent together and it sounds great! Great ready for some great strumming and breakdowns.... It will be like Saturday has come early and it's time to come to town for the Dance.....
Their website does not appear to allow you to listen to music - so check out the link below or just query the South Memphis String Band on You Tube and you will find a lot of their stuff..
